Wuxi

Wuxi is a prosperous city in Jiangsu province on the shores of Lake Tai, historically a center of silk, textiles, and commerce along the Grand Canal. With a metropolitan population of around seven million, it is a wealthy, garden-filled city in the heart of the Yangtze Delta. The climate is humid subtropical, with hot, humid summers and cool, damp winters. Its highlights center on scenic Lake Tai, especially the Turtle Head Isle peninsula, along with the towering Lingshan Grand Buddha and the classical Xihui Park. Local cuisine is characteristically sweet, famous for Wuxi spare ribs and sweetish soup dumplings. A modern metro network, the nearby Sunan Shuofang International Airport, and high-speed rail place Shanghai and Nanjing well under an hour away. For an international student, Wuxi offers a comfortable, affluent setting, lakeside scenery, and an excellent base within easy reach of the whole Yangtze Delta.
