📖 About the university

The Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (SCFAI), founded in 1940, is the only major higher art academy in southwest China and one of the country's eight leading fine-art institutions. It became nationally famous in the post-1978 era as the home of the 'Sichuan school' of oil painting and 'scar art', producing many of China's best-known contemporary painters and sculptors. The institute is strong across oil painting, sculpture, Chinese painting, design and public art. Its Huxi campus in Chongqing is celebrated for its artistic architecture and the surrounding Tank Loft / Huangjueping art district. SCFAI attracts international students drawn to contemporary Chinese art in the dynamic setting of Chongqing.
