📖 About the university

The University of Tibetan Medicine is a public university in Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, founded in 1989 and elevated to full university status in 2018. It is the world's only university dedicated to traditional Tibetan medicine (Sowa Rigpa), preserving and developing a healing tradition more than a thousand years old. Its programs cover Tibetan medicine, Tibetan pharmacy and the traditional Tibetan astronomy and calendar. The university trains practitioners and researchers of Tibetan medicine and safeguards a distinctive part of Tibetan cultural heritage.
