📖 About the university
Hebei University of Water Resources and Electric Engineering is a public undergraduate institution in the Yunhe district of Cangzhou, administered directly by the Hebei Provincial Department of Education and jointly built with the Cangzhou municipal government. It was founded in Tianjin in 1952 as the Hebei Water Resources and Civil Engineering School, set up jointly by the provincial departments of water resources, communications and industry, and it was one of the earliest water-conservancy schools in northern China as well as one of the first independently established water-conservancy schools in the country after 1949. Its name and location changed repeatedly: it became the Hebei Tianjin Water Conservancy School in 1955, was raised to junior-college level as the Hebei College of Water Resources and Electric Power in 1958 after moving to Baoding, became the undergraduate Hebei College of Water Resources in 1960, was reorganised in 1966 and moved to Gangnan in Pingshan county, moved to Cangzhou in 1970 as the Hebei Water Conservancy Junior College, and was renamed the Hebei College of Engineering and Technology in 1992. On 28 March 2016 the Ministry of Education approved its return to full undergraduate status under the present name. Teaching is organised in departments of water resources engineering, electric power engineering, civil engineering, electrical automation, mechanical engineering, transportation engineering, computer science and economics and trade, alongside basic-teaching and physical-education units and a school of Marxism. Engineering dominates the academic profile, with water resources and electric power as the flagship fields and architecture, surveying, automation, transport, machinery, information technology and economics and trade developing beside them. The university works from a main campus and a high-tech-zone campus with roughly 701,600 square metres of grounds and 248,100 square metres of buildings, holds more than a million printed volumes in its library, and publishes the Journal of Hebei University of Water Resources and Electric Engineering.
