📖 About the university
Wuhan University of Bioengineering is a private undergraduate institution in the Yangluo economic development zone of Xinzhou district, Wuhan, and it describes itself as the first regular undergraduate institution in China established specifically around bioengineering. It was founded in 1993 as Wuhan Bioengineering School, was raised in 2000 to Wuhan Bioengineering Vocational and Technical College, absorbed the pharmacy department of the Hubei Higher College of Drug Inspection in 2001, and in 2005 was approved as a regular undergraduate institution under its present name; the Ministry of Education granted it the right to confer bachelor's degrees in 2008. From 2010 it began jointly training postgraduate students with Huazhong Agricultural University, and at the end of 2014 it signed formal agreements with Huazhong Agricultural University and Hubei University of Technology to run joint graduate programmes; it passed the Ministry of Education's qualification assessment of undergraduate teaching in 2012 and the ministry's audit evaluation in 2018. The campus covers roughly 1,760 to 2,490 mu depending on the reporting year, with total building floor area reported at more than 985,000 square metres, and by the mid-2020s the university taught more than 27,000 full-time students with over 1,100 staff. Twelve schools deliver in the region of seventy undergraduate and junior-college programmes: life science and technology, pharmacy, management, mechanical and electronic engineering, architecture and civil engineering, foreign languages, chemical and environmental engineering, landscape and horticulture, food science and technology, computer and information engineering, art and design, and physical education. The academic centre of gravity remains biological: bioengineering, biotechnology, pharmacy and pharmaceutical engineering, food science and quality, horticulture and landscape architecture, and biology-adjacent chemical and environmental engineering, which for years made it the only independent private undergraduate college in Hubei with degree-awarding authority. Practical access is straightforward, since Wuhan Metro Line 21 to Yangluo has a station serving the campus and the city is one of the best-connected in central China.

🌆 About Wuhan
Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province and the largest city in central China, formed from three historic towns where the Yangtze and Han rivers meet. With a metropolitan population of around 13 million, it is a major hub for transport, industry, and higher education, home to a dense concentration of universities. The climate is humid subtropical and known for very hot, humid summers that earn it a reputation as one of China's furnaces, along with cold, damp winters. Landmarks include the historic Yellow Crane Tower, the vast East Lake, the pioneering Yangtze River Bridge, and the snack-lined Hubu Alley. Local food is famous for hot dry noodles, Wuchang fish, and spicy duck neck. An expanding metro network, Tianhe International Airport, and a central high-speed rail position make it one of the country's best-connected cities. For an international student, Wuhan offers a huge student population, strong universities, affordable living, and a lively, youthful energy.
