Guangzhou Xinhua University is a full-time private comprehensive university whose predecessor, the Xinhua College of Sun Yat-sen University, was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2005 and jointly established by Sun Yat-sen University and the Guangdong Dongbao Group. In February 2021 the Ministry of Education approved its transformation from an independent college into an independently run private undergraduate university under its present name. The university operates two campuses, one in the Tianhe District of Guangzhou and a larger one in Dongguan, and enrolls more than twenty thousand students across some twenty-four teaching units. It offers fifty-seven undergraduate majors spanning economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management and the arts, and is distinctive for a cluster of health-related programmes that are rare among comparable private institutions, including biomedical engineering, audiology and speech-language rehabilitation, medical imaging technology and ophthalmic optics. Its accounting programme is recognised as a national first-class major and its nursing programme as a provincial first-class major, reflecting the university's strengths in health sciences, business and management.
