📖 About the university

Wanjiang University of Technology is a private undergraduate institution in Yushan district of Ma'anshan, the steel city on the Yangtze in eastern Anhui, with a second campus in the Zhengpugang new area of neighbouring He county. It was founded in 2008 as the Wentian College of Hohai University, an independent college created by Hohai — China's premier water-conservancy university in Nanjing — together with the Jiangsu Daye investment company, and it later converted into a free-standing private institution under the present name, whose characters mean the Anhui reach of the Yangtze. The Hohai parentage gives the school a specialisation almost unique among private colleges: water-resources engineering is its flagship, taught in a dedicated school beside civil engineering, electrical and information engineering, mechanical engineering, economics and management, art and design and international education. In 2016 the college was ranked 64th among China's independent colleges and first in Anhui by the Cuaa alumni network. Around 12,000 students study 29 bachelor programmes with some 655 full-time teachers, and provincial excellence-engineer and specialty-programme projects support the engineering core. Graduates supply the water, construction and manufacturing industries along the Yangtze. Teaching is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic.
