📖 About the university

Harbin Vocational and Technical University traces its roots to the Harbin Municipal Business Vocational School, founded in 1956, and was formally constituted in June 2002 through the merger of seven Harbin-based institutions, including the Harbin Institute of Economic Management, the Harbin Finance and Trade Workers' University and the Harbin Electromechanical Engineering School, under the name Harbin Vocational and Technical College. In June 2024 the Ministry of Education approved its upgrade to bachelor's-degree level as Harbin Vocational and Technical University, a full-time public vocational university, and the school enrolled its first cohort of more than 360 undergraduate students that same year. The university is located in Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang province in China's northeast, known for its Russian-influenced architecture and its winter Ice and Snow Festival. It is organised into schools such as the School of Mechatronic Engineering, the School of Modern Service Industry, the School of Accounting and Finance, the School of Electronics and Information Engineering, the School of Art and Design and the School of Automotive Engineering, alongside a Marxism school and an international education unit. Its mechatronics integration technology and e-commerce programme clusters have been recognised as state-level high-level vocational clusters, and six further programme groups, including new-generation information technology, hold provincial first-round high-level status. As a newly upgraded vocational undergraduate institution, it is part of China's national push since 2019 to build a modern vocational education system offering bachelor's-level technical training alongside academic higher education. The university mainly serves domestic students preparing for technical and managerial careers in manufacturing, e-commerce, finance and modern services, and it does not yet have an established international-student programme, though Mandarin instruction is naturally available as the language of teaching.
