📖 About the university

Tonghua Normal University is a public undergraduate teacher-training institution located in Tonghua, a city at the foot of Changbai Mountain in southeastern Jilin Province near the border with North Korea. The institution grew out of a normal school and was established as Tonghua Teachers College in 1958, and in 1978 it was officially upgraded to a regular undergraduate institution with the approval of the national education authorities. The university comprises around fifteen colleges and offers more than forty undergraduate majors covering eight disciplines, with about 11,000 full-time students drawn from across the country. It emphasizes teacher education while developing distinctive research and teaching linked to the Changbai Mountain region, including its natural resources, ginseng and local history, alongside strong programs in chemistry and Chinese language and literature. Located in a scenic mountainous border region, the university admits international students and provides Chinese-language study for learners in China.
