📖 About the university

Longnan Normal University is a public undergraduate teacher-training university in Chengxian County, part of Longnan city in the mountainous far south-east of Gansu province. Its lineage begins in 1937 with the founding of the Chengxian County Simplified Normal School, which was later renamed Chengxian Normal School. In 2001 Chengxian Normal School merged with Lixian Normal School of Gansu Province to form Longnan Normal School, which was upgraded in 2003 to Longnan Teachers College at specialist level, and in May 2024 the Ministry of Education approved its establishment as a full undergraduate institution under the name Longnan Normal University. As of May 2025 the campus covers 1,049.33 mu with 301,500 square metres of building space, and the university runs fifteen teaching units, fifteen administrative departments, two teaching-support bodies, an affiliated experimental school and six university-level research institutes. It offers eleven undergraduate and twenty-nine specialist programmes, with 9,003 students enrolled and 517 full-time teaching staff. Over eighty-seven years the institution has trained more than seventy thousand primary, secondary and kindergarten teachers and other specialists, making it the main source of educators for one of the poorest and most mountainous corners of Gansu.
