📖 About the university

Shanghai Institute of Technology (SIT), formed in 2000 by merging three senior vocational schools in light industry, metallurgy and chemical engineering, is one of China's leading universities of applied sciences and was granted technical-university status in 2016. Its most distinctive feature is the School of Perfume and Aroma Technology — built on the former Shanghai Research Institute of Fragrance and Flavor Industry — which makes SIT the national leader in perfume, flavour and cosmetics education. Around this signature strength the university is organised into some nineteen schools spanning applied chemistry, materials, chemical and environmental engineering, mechanical engineering and management. Its mission is squarely applied: training practically skilled engineers and technicians for industry rather than pure academic research. Based in Shanghai, SIT offers an unusual specialism attractive to international students, especially those interested in fragrance, flavour and applied chemistry.
