📖 About the university

Shaoyang University is a public undergraduate university located in Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, administered by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education. Its roots go back to 1958 with the founding of Shaoyang Normal College, and the present university was formed in 2002 through the merger of Shaoyang Normal College and Shaoyang College, which were upgraded to undergraduate status. In 2016 the former Shaoyang Medical College was incorporated, adding a medical tradition whose origins reach back to 1906. The university is a multidisciplinary institution spanning engineering, medicine, literature, economics, management, science and the arts, with particular strengths in mechanical engineering and clinical medicine. It enrolls tens of thousands of full-time students across multiple campuses and serves as a regional center of higher education in western Hunan. Shaoyang University also admits international students and offers Chinese-language study for those wishing to learn in China.
