📖 About the university

Ningbo University College of Science and Technology is an independent college in Cixi, Zhejiang Province, first established in April 1999 as Zhejiang's earliest state-run, privately operated secondary college in a higher-education reform pilot. In November 2004 it was confirmed among the first batch of independent colleges in Zhejiang by the Ministry of Education, and in September 2019 it relocated in its entirety from the Zhenhai district of Ningbo to the coastal city of Cixi. The college has ten secondary colleges and offers around forty-six undergraduate majors spanning economics, law, education, literature, management, science, engineering, medicine and the arts. It enrols close to fifteen thousand full-time students and in 2024 ranked among the top independent colleges in national alumni-association rankings. Its strengths include information engineering, mechanical engineering and automation, economics and management, and design. Based on a modern campus in the manufacturing hub of Cixi, it draws on the resources of its parent Ningbo University to serve the industrial economy of coastal Zhejiang.

Cixi is a county-level city on the southern shore of Hangzhou Bay administered by Ningbo, and one of the wealthiest manufacturing hubs in Zhejiang. Its factories churn out home appliances, electronics and auto parts, and the giant Hangzhou Bay Bridge links it directly to Shanghai. Shanglin Lake was a cradle of ancient celadon porcelain, and the region is famous for its sweet red bayberries. For an international student, Cixi combines a booming private economy, coastal wetlands and proximity to both Ningbo and Shanghai.
