📖 About the university

Gandong College is a public full-time undergraduate institution in Linchuan district of Fuzhou, the eastern Jiangxi city celebrated as a home of scholars and of the Ming playwright Tang Xianzu — Gandong means east of the Gan, Jiangxi's great river. It was founded in 2002 as the Changjiang College of East China University of Technology, the independent college of the Fuzhou-and-Nanchang-based university known for its nuclear-industry and geoscience heritage. On 25 January 2021 the Ministry of Education approved the college's conversion, and unlike most converted independent colleges it became a public institution, run by the province — one of a small number of such public conversions nationwide, undertaken with the backing of the Fuzhou municipal government. The college inherits an applied slant from its parent: engineering, information technology, geoscience-adjacent and management programmes dominate, and its establishment gave Fuzhou a undergraduate institution of its own at a time when the city sought to anchor higher education locally. As a young public college it combines modest size with provincial funding stability, and its graduates serve the industries and administrations of eastern Jiangxi. Teaching is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic.
