📖 About the university

Zhejiang Vocational University of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering traces its lineage to the Zhejiang Hangzhou Workers' Technical School, founded in 1952, and the Zhejiang Machinery Industry School, established in 1975; the two lines were combined in December 1999 and formally reconstituted in January 2002 as the Zhejiang Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, a higher-vocational college. In May 2024 the Ministry of Education approved its upgrade to bachelor's level under its current name, making it one of Zhejiang province's newest publicly run vocational undergraduate universities. The university is based in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, and has expanded onto a newer Haining campus, which hosts units including the School of Automation and the School of Digital Commerce. Overall the university is organised into eleven secondary schools and departments offering 28 programmes, with particular strength in mechanical manufacturing and automation, mechatronic integration technology, electrical automation technology and Internet-of-Things application technology, consistent with its long history as one of Zhejiang's leading mechanical and electrical training institutions. Several of its programme clusters have been recognised under Zhejiang's provincial 'double high-level' vocational construction plan, reflecting sustained investment in equipment-intensive engineering training. As with other newly promoted vocational universities, it sits outside the Project 985/211 and Double First-Class categories, concentrating instead on applied technical education tightly linked to Zhejiang's manufacturing economy. The university currently enrols primarily domestic students and has not yet developed a dedicated international-admissions programme, though its engineering laboratories and workshops are considered well equipped by vocational-education standards.
