📖 About the university
Jilin University (JLU) is a public research university in Changchun, the capital of Jilin province in north-east China, founded in 1946 and greatly expanded through a major merger in 2000 that made it one of the largest universities in the country. It is included in Project 985, Project 211, and the Double First-Class initiative. JLU is especially known for chemistry, automotive engineering, the geosciences, mathematics, and materials science, and its Bethune-tradition medical school adds strength in the health sciences. Its very broad disciplinary range spans the humanities, sciences, engineering, agriculture, and medicine.
Spread across multiple campuses in Changchun, a city long associated with China's automobile industry, the university offers extensive facilities and a diverse academic environment. JLU maintains broad international collaborations and hosts a substantial international student community. International applicants can study the Chinese language and prepare for the HSK, and the university offers many degree programs, including English-taught options at the graduate level and in fields such as medicine. It is well suited to academically strong students seeking a large comprehensive university, particularly those interested in chemistry, automotive engineering, the geosciences, or medicine.

🌆 About Changchun
Changchun is the capital of Jilin province in China's northeast and a historic center of the country's automobile and film industries. Its metropolitan population is around nine million, and the city is known for wide, tree-lined boulevards and a planned, green layout. The climate is markedly seasonal, with short, warm summers and long, very cold, snowy winters that regularly fall well below freezing. Notable sights include the Puppet Emperor's Palace from the Manchukuo era, the leafy Nanhu Park, and the forested Jingyuetan reservoir on the city's edge. Local dishes reflect hearty Northeastern cuisine, such as sweet-and-sour guobaorou and warming sauerkraut stews. The city has a growing metro and light-rail network, an international airport at Longjia, and high-speed rail connections toward Beijing and Harbin. For an international student, Changchun offers a calmer, more affordable environment than the megacities, strong engineering and medical universities, and a genuine taste of northern Chinese winter life.
