📖 About the university

Dehong Normal University is a full-time public undergraduate university sponsored by the Yunnan provincial government and located in Mangshi, the seat of the Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture in far-western Yunnan close to the border with Myanmar. Its roots lie in the Luxi Normal School founded in 1955 and later institutions including the Dehong prefectural education college, and in February 2025 the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the undergraduate Dehong Normal University on the basis of Dehong Teachers College. The university offers around forty-two enrolling programmes, of which its first undergraduate majors are chiefly teacher-training fields, spanning disciplines in education, agriculture, management and the arts across nine broad subject areas. It is organised into teaching units covering teacher education, Chinese language and literature, foreign languages, mathematics and computer science, physical education, arts, economics and management, and agriculture and life sciences. Occupying roughly 990 mu in Mangshi, the university plays a distinctive role in training bilingual schoolteachers and skilled graduates for the ethnically diverse Dai, Jingpo and other communities of this border prefecture. As a newly upgraded institution centred on teacher education for a frontier region, it enrols mainly domestic students and does not currently offer a dedicated Chinese-language programme for international applicants.
