📖 About the university
Chongqing Institute of Foreign Studies is a private undergraduate institution in Huixing subdistrict of the Liangjiang New Area, the national-level development zone north of central Chongqing, with a campus of about 1,682 mu. It was founded in 2001 as the Chongqing Nanfang Translators College of the Sichuan International Studies University, the independent college of the southwest's leading foreign-languages university, and on 18 December 2020 the Ministry of Education approved its conversion into a free-standing private institution under the present name. The inheritance is plainly linguistic: schools of English, Oriental languages and Western languages sit beside an international business school, a school of literature and journalism, and schools of management, art and music, and the library holds about 1.3 million printed volumes. Around 13,000 students study with some 970 staff, and well over half of the full-time teachers hold postgraduate degrees. For a private college its concentration of language programmes — English, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish and others — is unusual in the region, and graduates head into translation, foreign trade, tourism and media across western China. Teaching is in Chinese with the language majors taught in their target languages; enrolment is domestic.

🌆 About Chongqing
Chongqing is a sprawling southwestern municipality built across steep hills where the Yangtze and Jialing rivers meet, giving it the nickname the mountain city. Its urban core holds around 16 million people, and its dramatic, multi-level terrain of bridges, tunnels, and cliffside buildings is unlike anywhere else in China. The climate is humid subtropical, with famously hot, humid summers and mild, often foggy winters. Landmarks include the glowing Hongya Cave stilt complex, the old Yangtze River cableway, Ciqikou ancient town, and the light-rail line that runs straight through a residential tower at Liziba. The city is the birthplace of fiery Chongqing hotpot, alongside spicy xiaomian noodles and laziji chicken. A distinctive metro and monorail system, Jiangbei International Airport, and high-speed rail connect its complex geography and the wider region. For an international student, Chongqing offers low living costs, dramatic scenery, and an intense, unforgettable urban experience.
