📖 About the university

Jilin Business and Technology College is a provincial public undergraduate institution in the Jiuta Economic Development Zone of Changchun, on the shore of Kalun Lake, and it is one of the first batch of institutions chosen for Jilin's applied-undergraduate pilot programme. The college traces its teaching history to 1958 and took its present shape in March 2007, when the Ministry of Education approved the merger of three specialist junior colleges founded in the 1950s: Jilin Fiscal and Taxation Higher Vocational College, Jilin Commerce Higher Vocational College and Jilin Grain Higher Vocational College. Provincial development authorities approved a relocation in 2012, and in 2014 the whole college moved to the new Kalun Lake campus, which covers 984,000 square metres with more than 326,000 square metres of buildings and about 384,000 square metres of landscaped grounds. As of 2023 it taught 15,772 full-time undergraduate and junior-college students with 952 staff, of whom 394 hold senior professional titles and 706 hold master's or doctoral degrees, and it recruits from all 31 provinces and equivalent divisions of mainland China. Fourteen teaching units deliver 46 undergraduate and 15 junior-college programmes across economics, management, literature, engineering, agriculture and art, with economics and management as the flagship fields, so the college describes itself as a regional multidisciplinary institution of finance and economics. Its most distinctive unit is the School of Grain Science, inherited from the former Jilin Grain College, which teaches grain engineering, food science and engineering, bioengineering for grain processing, food quality and safety, and food nutrition and inspection — a specialism found in very few Chinese undergraduate institutions and closely tied to the grain economy of the northeastern plain. Alongside it sit the business, industry and commerce, accounting, finance, public finance and taxation, economics and trade, foreign languages, media and art, and tourism and culinary arts schools, giving the campus an unusually practical mix of commerce, engineering and hospitality training.

Changchun is the capital of Jilin province in China's northeast and a historic center of the country's automobile and film industries. Its metropolitan population is around nine million, and the city is known for wide, tree-lined boulevards and a planned, green layout. The climate is markedly seasonal, with short, warm summers and long, very cold, snowy winters that regularly fall well below freezing.
