The Central Academy of Drama in Beijing, founded in 1950, is China's oldest and most prestigious institution of higher theatre education and one of the world's leading drama schools. Its programmes in acting, directing, playwriting, stage design and musical theatre have produced a great many of China's most famous stage and screen actors. It is directly affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and enjoys deep ties to the National Theatre and China's performing-arts world. With campuses in Dongcheng and Changping, it combines classical dramatic training with contemporary practice.
