📖 About the university

Tianjin Police College traces its origins to the Tianjin Municipal Public Security School, founded in January 1949, which was successively renamed the Tianjin Municipal People's Police School and, later, the Tianjin Vocational College of Public Security Police. In May 2011 it absorbed the Tianjin Administrative Cadre College of Politics and Law, whose own roots reach back to the Beiyang School of Law and Politics, founded in 1906, adding a longer tradition of legal and administrative training to its policing curriculum. In June 2025 the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of a bachelor's-level Tianjin Police College on the basis of the former vocational college, with the old institution's registration formally revoked, making it a newly designated public-security undergraduate institution. The college is located in Jingwu, Xiqing district, Tianjin, and is run by the Tianjin municipal government under the direction of the municipal political-legal affairs committee and the public security bureau, with the education commission providing academic oversight. Its first cohort of bachelor's students, expected to enrol in 2026 with a planned full-time scale of around 5,000 students, will study four inaugural programmes: public security studies, criminal investigation, police command and tactics, and cybersecurity and law enforcement. As a specialised law-enforcement academy training officers primarily for Tianjin's police force, its student body and campus culture are oriented toward physical training and public-security coursework rather than a broad international-student community, and it teaches exclusively in Chinese. Like China's other provincial police colleges, it sits outside the Project 985/211 university system, instead forming part of the country's dedicated public-security higher-education network.
