📖 About the university

Qiqihar Institute of Engineering is an undergraduate institution in Qiqihar, the second city of Heilongjiang on the Nen River plain, with a history rooted in the machine-tool industry that made the city famous. Its earliest predecessor was the heavy machine-tool manufacturing school of the Qiqihar No. 1 Machine Tool Works, set up in 1958; this became the factory's staff mechanical-electrical college in 1979, was reorganised in 1993 as Heilongjiang East Asia University on a state-owned, privately-run model, became Qiqihar Vocational College in 2001, and in April 2011 was renamed Qiqihar Institute of Engineering upon its elevation to undergraduate level. The main campus sits in the Nanyuan high-tech development zone, with an older campus on Minyi Road and an affiliated campus in Sanya on Hainan island; the institute also runs an affiliated hospital, a technical school and a vocational high school. More than ten thousand students study over forty programmes across engineering, management, literature, agriculture and law, with mechanical design and manufacturing, automotive service engineering and civil engineering as the signature majors, taught through departments of mechanical and electrical, transportation, information, construction and management engineering. Teaching is in Chinese and enrolment is domestic.
