📖 About the university

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is a public university founded by the government in 1989 as the Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong, renamed the Open University of Hong Kong in 1997, and given its present name in 2021 to reflect its growth into a full campus-based institution. It began as Hong Kong's pioneer of open and distance learning and now combines flexible, part-time study with a large body of full-time undergraduate programmes at its campuses in Ho Man Tin and Kowloon East. The university teaches in both English and Chinese and is organised into schools of Arts and Social Sciences, the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, Education and Languages, Nursing and Health Studies, and Science and Technology, along with an open-learning arm. HKMU is particularly recognised for nursing and health studies, where it is one of Hong Kong's largest trainers of registered nurses, as well as for business, creative arts and design, and applied science and technology. Its dual mission of accessible lifelong learning and career-focused full-time degrees makes it distinctive within the Hong Kong system. HKMU suits students seeking practical, professionally accredited programmes, especially in health care, business, and the creative industries, whether through full-time or flexible study.

🌆 About Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region on the southern coast of China and one of the world's leading financial, trading, and logistics hubs, where Cantonese Chinese culture blends seamlessly with a British-influenced international outlook. Built around one of the finest deep-water harbours in the world, the territory packs a dramatic skyline of skyscrapers against steep green mountains and outlying islands, with Victoria Harbour at its heart. Its climate is humid subtropical, bringing hot, humid summers with occasional typhoons and mild, dry winters. English and Chinese are both official languages, and the city is famous for its efficient MTR metro, double-decker trams and buses, and Hong Kong International Airport, one of the busiest in the world. Everyday life mixes Michelin-starred dining and dim sum teahouses with street markets, temples, hiking trails, and beaches, all within easy reach. For an international student, Hong Kong offers a concentration of world-ranked universities, a genuinely global environment, and easy travel across Asia, though living costs and rents are among the highest in the region.
