Opened on 3 August 2021 (initially planned under the working name 'Jinzhou East'), Linghai South has 2 platforms and 8 tracks and replaced the century-old Linghai Station (built 1899), which ended passenger service in October 2020. It is now the city's only passenger railway station, linking Linghai to Shenyang, Jinzhou, and Qinhuangdao by high-speed rail.
