Built in 1999, Leizhou Station began handling passengers in December 2004 as a stop on the Yuehai railway, the trunk line whose trains cross by rail ferry to Hainan Island; service was briefly suspended in 2007 during a national schedule overhaul and resumed in mid-2008. It sits between Zhanjiang West and Xuwen stations on this Guangdong–Hainan corridor.
