The station stands north of the Songhua River, on the opposite bank from historic central Harbin and its famous Zhongyang Street. The best way in is Harbin Metro Line 2: the '哈尔滨北站' metro station lies beneath the railway station's north plaza at the junction of Changqing Street and Beizhan 2nd Road in Hulan District, opened on 19 September 2021, and the line takes you straight across the river into the city centre.

Traveller notes

The conventional side opened on 8 August 2015 and the high-speed side on 17 August 2015, with a 9,967 sqm station building, six platforms and ten tracks. It is the gateway for high-speed services towards Qiqihar, Daqing and northwestern Heilongjiang. IMPORTANT warning: Harbin has four passenger stations (Harbin, Harbin West, Harbin East and Harbin North), and most long-distance high-speed trains to Beijing and Shenyang leave from Harbin West, not from here. Read the station name on your ticket carefully.
