Built in 1969 as Machangping station during construction of the Hunan–Guizhou railway, it began trial operation in 1972, formally opened on 1 January 1975, and was renamed Fuquan in 2000. It is a second-class passenger-and-freight station on the Shanghai–Kunming railway, with a 67,500 sqm freight yard.
