📜 About & history
Built in 1904 by Kashif Asrari, a Tatar grand imam from Bukhara, as the Tatar community's mosque in Yining. It holds about 600 worshippers, and through the 1990s still drew several hundred Tatar and other Muslim worshippers daily. Historically it ranked with the Baytullah Mosque and the Hui (Shaanxi) Great Mosque as one of the 'three great mosques of Ili'.

Yining city buses serve the central old-town streets near the mosque.
In central Yining near the historic Kazanqi (Uyghur folk) quarter; a short taxi ride from the city centre.
Distinct from the Baytullah and Shaanxi (Hui Great) mosques; part of Yining's multi-ethnic old town. Tatar, Uyghur and Chinese spoken; halal food throughout the Kazanqi quarter.
