Fuyou Road Mosque, also known as the North Mosque (Beisi), was built in 1870 (9th year of the Tongzhi reign) after a group of 31 Muslims pooled funds to buy about 400 m² of land. It was rebuilt and expanded several times — in 1897, 1905, 1936 and 1979 — and long served as the political, religious and cultural center of Shanghai's Muslim community. The Shanghai Muslim board of trustees was established here in the early 20th century. The three-story Qing-style complex, on a 1,520 m² site, houses a prayer hall, auditorium, library, meeting hall and ablution facilities.

Buses 66, 306, 929 and 969 stop at Henan S. Road/Fuyou Road; buses 11, 26, 64, 304, 736, 920 and 930 stop at Xinbeimen on Renmin Road.
This is itself the historic Muslim quarter of Shanghai — the mosque sits on Fuyou Road, a few minutes' walk from Yuyuan and from Xiaotaoyuan Mosque.
From People's Square take Metro Line 10 (or Line 14) to Yuyuan Garden, then walk about 10 minutes south to Fuyou Road; the mosque is in the old town near Yuyuan Bazaar.
