Erdaoqiao Mosque

二道桥清真寺
📍 Urumqi · Tianshan District (International Grand Bazaar) 🏛️ Successor to the early-20th-century Turpan Mosque; rebuilt and reopened 2004 👥 About 300 worshippers

📜 About & history

The Erdaoqiao Mosque succeeds the early-20th-century Turpan Mosque (Tulufan Mosque), which stood at the Erdaoqiao crossroads until it was demolished in 2002 for the Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar project. It was rebuilt just south of the original site and renamed the Erdaoqiao Mosque, reopening in 2004. Covering about 2,400 square metres with capacity for around 300 worshippers, it was one of the first mosques in northwest China formally opened to tourists. It stands beside the landmark Grand Bazaar in the heart of Urumqi's Uyghur commercial quarter.
