📜 About & history

A large Uyghur mosque in Turpan's old town (the historic 'Hui city' founded in 1871), first built in 1870. Renovated in 1980, it occupies about 4.5 mu and can accommodate some 3,000 worshippers at prayer. It combines a Chinese-style hall with an Islamic-style moon-watching (mihrab) tower, and sits on the south side of Xincheng Road near the traditional dwellings and karez of the old quarter.

Uyghur halal food and the old-town bazaar nearby; distinct from the Emin Minaret (Sugong) Mosque and Tuyoq Mazar Mosque. Uyghur and Chinese spoken.
