Changchun Mosque, also called the Changtong Road Mosque, is the earliest and largest mosque in Changchun. Hui settlers who came to reclaim land in the Kuanchengzi area first built a mosque inside the old city on West Third Street in 1824 (Daoguang 4); in 1852 it moved outside the walls to Tielingtun, the site of today's Changtong Road mosque lane. Under Imam Han Dengqing the main hall was rebuilt in 1864 after a fundraising drive in Jilin. Today the compound covers more than 16,000 square metres, with a 653-square-metre prayer hall seating five to six hundred and a 32-metre hexagonal Moon-Watching Tower; it is a Jilin provincial protected cultural relic and the seat of the Jilin and Changchun Islamic Associations.
