📜 About & history

The Afaq Khoja Mausoleum, popularly known as the Xiangfei (Fragrant Concubine) Tomb, is the holiest Islamic shrine in southern Xinjiang. The complex was begun around 1640 as the tomb of the Naqshbandi Sufi master Muhammad Yusuf and later took the name of his son, Afaq Khoja; five generations of the family are buried in the tiled central chamber. Besides the domed tomb, the walled grounds contain a great mosque, a small mosque, a teaching (scripture) hall and a gate tower, framed by four corner minarets clad in glazed tiles. It remains an active pilgrimage and prayer site as well as one of Kashgar's best-known monuments.
