Unsafe Food — Tenfold Compensation · Yalla China

🤝 Governing law: 食品安全法 / Food Safety Law

You found expired or harmful food — how big is your claim?

Illustrative, general educational examples — not real specific facts and not legal advice; for awareness only. For an actual situation, consult a licensed lawyer.
The situation: A buyer finds that a packaged food item bought from a store expired weeks ago, or contains a banned additive.

Applicable law: The Food Safety Law is very strict; anyone producing or selling food that fails safety standards owes the consumer ten times the price or three times the loss (whichever is higher), minimum 1,000 yuan, plus a refund — even with no actual health harm, as long as the product breaches safety standards. Minor labeling flaws that don't affect safety or mislead are excepted.

Outcome: The buyer proved the expiry date with the receipt and a photo and recovered the price plus ten times more.

🎓 The lesson / takeaway

Lesson: Food safety is a red line, and its compensation is tenfold. Photograph the expiry date and receipt right after buying.
