In Shanxi province

Yuncheng is the southernmost prefecture-level city in Shanxi, set in the fertile Yellow River basin and celebrated as the hometown of the deified general Guan Yu. Its economy is built on salt production from the ancient Yuncheng Salt Lake, magnesium and aluminium industry, and wheat-based agriculture on the Loess Plateau. The city is home to Yuncheng University and preserves major cultural sites including the Xiezhou Guandi Temple and the mural-filled Yongle Palace. It has a warm temperate continental monsoon climate with hot summers and cold, dry winters. For an international student, Yuncheng offers deep Chinese history, Guan Yu heritage, and hearty Shanxi noodle and vinegar cuisine.
