Weinan

In Shaanxi province

Weinan is a prefecture-level city in eastern Shaanxi on the Guanzhong Plain, at the confluence of the Wei and Yellow rivers and long a granary of the region. Its greatest draw is Mount Hua (Huashan), the westernmost of China's Five Great Mountains, famed for its sheer granite peaks, plank walks and Taoist temples. The area is dotted with imperial Tang tombs and holds the ancient Xiyue Temple dedicated to the sacred mountain. For an international student, Weinan offers a spectacular sacred mountain, deep Guanzhong history, hearty Shaanxi food and a short high-speed hop to Xi'an.
