Ulanhot
Ulanhot, whose Mongolian name means 'Red City', is a city in the Hinggan League of eastern Inner Mongolia, historically significant as the place where the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Government — the first provincial-level autonomous government in the People's Republic — was founded in 1947. It preserves that government site and the hilltop Genghis Khan Temple. Set where grassland meets the forested Greater Khingan foothills, it blends Mongolian heritage with a green, watered landscape. For an international student, Ulanhot offers revolutionary history, Mongolian culture and access to northeastern grassland and mountain scenery.
