Tianshui

In Gansu province

Tianshui is an ancient city in southeastern Gansu, reputed as the birthplace of the legendary emperor Fuxi and home to the Maijishan Grottoes, a cliffside complex of Buddhist cave carvings. It has a temperate semi-arid continental climate. Its spicy malatang gained nationwide fame, and an airport and high-speed rail connect it to Xi'an and Lanzhou. For an international student, Tianshui offers deep history, striking grotto art, and low living costs.
