Manzhouli

In Inner Mongolia province

Manzhouli is a city on the far northern border of Inner Mongolia where China meets Russia and Mongolia, and the country's largest overland port. Long a crossroads of the Trans-Siberian trade, it blends Chinese, Russian and Mongolian cultures, with onion-domed architecture, a giant matryoshka-doll park and bilingual streets. The vast Hulun Lake and surrounding grasslands lie nearby. Winters are bitterly cold and snowy. For an international student, Manzhouli offers a fascinating multicultural border atmosphere, grassland and lake scenery and a unique gateway to Russia.
