Luzhou

In Sichuan province

Luzhou sits in southern Sichuan at the meeting of the Yangtze and Tuo rivers, a strategic port near the borders with Chongqing, Yunnan and Guizhou. It is one of China's great liquor cities, home to the famed Luzhou Laojiao distillery whose continuously used fermentation cellars date to the Ming dynasty and are a national treasure. The wine city status makes baijiu its defining industry alongside chemicals and river trade. Scenic Fangshan and ancient towns such as Zhangba draw visitors. Luzhou's port on the upper Yangtze is a key inland-shipping gateway.
