Jingyuan

Jingyuan County sits at the southern tip of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, high in the forested Liupan Mountains where the Jing River rises, and it holds the highest share of Hui Muslim residents of any county in Ningxia at roughly 86 percent of its population. The local economy is built on dryland wheat and vegetable farming, yellow-cattle raising, and a fast-growing tourism trade drawn by the county's cool summer climate and dense forest cover, along with a well-known local honey industry supported by mountain wildflower meadows. There is no university in Jingyuan itself, and its students go on to schools in Guyuan or Yinchuan, though the county has invested heavily in rural vocational training tied to its forestry and beekeeping industries. Its best-known attractions are Liupan Mountain National Forest Park, whose peak once inspired a famous Mao Zedong poem about the Red Army's Long March, and Old Longtan, a chain of clear stone pools regarded as the mystical source of the Jing River. Visitors also come for the dramatic cliffs of Yanzhixia Gorge and the rounded silhouette of Woniushan, making Jingyuan one of Ningxia's greenest and best-watered corners.
