Jiangyin
Jiangyin is a wealthy county-level city under Wuxi, occupying a strategic bend on the south bank of the Yangtze where the river narrows before reaching the sea. Long a fortress town guarding the river approach to the Yangtze Delta, it is spanned today by the Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge, once among the longest suspension bridges in the world. The great Ming-dynasty traveler and geographer Xu Xiake was born here, and his former residence is preserved as a museum. Jiangyin hosts one of China's busiest inland ports and a dense cluster of listed manufacturing companies. In early spring the city is famous for its prized, seasonal Yangtze pufferfish.
