Heyuan

In Guangdong province

Heyuan is a Hakka city in northeastern Guangdong, set where the East River is dammed to form the vast Wanlv Lake, a key source of drinking water for the Pearl River Delta. It is world-famous among paleontologists for its enormous cache of dinosaur egg fossils, celebrated in the Heyuan Dinosaur Museum. The surrounding hills hold hot springs and forest reserves, and the lake's clear water supports fisheries and boating. With a warm, humid subtropical climate and Hakka food and language, and now linked by high-speed rail to Shenzhen and Guangzhou, Heyuan offers green scenery and low costs close to the coast.
