Deyang lies on the Chengdu plain in central Sichuan, a modern industrial city and part of the Chengdu metropolitan region. It is best known for the astonishing Sanxingdui archaeological site in nearby Guanghan, where enigmatic Bronze Age masks and giant figures revealed a lost ancient Shu civilization. Deyang is a national base for heavy equipment, producing turbines and power-generation machinery for projects across China. Its large Confucius Temple is among the best preserved in western China. Machinery, food processing and tourism support the economy.
