Changde

In Hunan province

Changde is a historic city in northwestern Hunan near the western edge of Dongting Lake, on the Yuan and Li rivers. It is popularly linked to Tao Yuanming's classic fable of Taohuayuan, the 'Peach Blossom Spring' utopia, evoked at a scenic park south of the city. The riverside features a long carved 'poetry wall' inscribed with Chinese verse. Changde is renowned across Hunan for its beef rice noodles and pungent local cuisine. It is an agricultural and light-industry hub and a center of tobacco and food processing.
