About 12 km from central Xinyuan near the Nalati area; reached by taxi and airport buses. No metro. Local timekeeping runs about two hours behind Beijing, and tickets use Beijing time.

A tourism feeder airport opened in 2010 in Xinyuan County of Ili Prefecture in northern Xinjiang, serving above all the famous Nalati grassland. Mostly seasonal/domestic service via Ürümqi. Halal food is widely available.
